Our unique roof is an icon in the community, and represents Praying Hands. The sanctuary is just that, an incredibly beautiful, sacred space filled with stained glass windows and a tall, curved wooden ceiling, lending itself as a place of prayer. The Fireside Room down the hallway (just past the restroom) is perfect for small gatherings and includes a small kitchen with a refrigerator. There is also a room with sofas for Bible studies, named “The Jesus Loves Me Room.”
The Thornton Heights UMC is on the South Portland bus route with a bus stop right on the church property at Landry Village. There is also a covered drop-off area and large parking lot.
Downstairs is dedicated to our church daycare, Building Blocks Learning Center. When there is a need for nursery care during worship, these facilities are perfect for little ones with plenty of indoor space as well as several fenced, outdoor play spaces.
Many community groups use space at the church during the week, including an Assemblies of God congregation, a piano studio, several AA groups, Toastmasters, TOPs and a Parkinson’s Support Group. If you are interested in rental space, please contact the church office.
The church and daycare recently purchased a van. This is used to pick up kids from school, and for special church events.
